Close to Home
St. John’s operates Non-Secure Placement (NSP) in Rockaway Park and Limited Secure Placement (LSP) programs in Brooklyn, and Staten Island as part of New York City’s Close to Home initiative. These residential programs support justice-involved youth placed by Family Court and are designed to promote rehabilitation, accountability, and a successful return to the community.
Our programs follow the Missouri Youth Services Institute (MYSI) model, which emphasizes positive youth development, relationship-building, and restorative practices. Youth receive a wide array of services, including individual, group, and family counselling; social services; medical care; life skills training; career development; and recreational activities. Educational services are provided through the on-site NYC Department of Education school, P256Q.
- Non-Secure Placement (NSP) : This program serves youth who require a less restrictive setting. It emphasizes a supportive, home-like environment where staff work closely with youth to foster rehabilitation, academic achievement, emotional development, and family reintegration.
- Limited Secure Placement (LSP) : offers a more structured setting for youth who require greater supervision and support. While incorporating enhanced safety measures, the program maintains a therapeutic, youth-centered approach focused on education, behavioural growth, and family engagement.
Aftercare Support
To support long-term success, St. John’s provides three to six months of intensive aftercare services following release. A dedicated Life Coach assists youth with reintegration into school.
